Benefits of a home birth vs. hospital
Having a baby comes along with many choices. One of the important decisions to be made is if you would like a home birth or hospital birth. Both of these come with their fair share of pros, often making the final decision difficult. We have broken down the two options to highlight their most important pros. Ultimately, choosing a home or hospital birth is a very personal decision, so it is best to compare the two and then choose which is best for you.
Home Birth
Medication Free: By choosing a home birth, you are avoiding any medication during your baby’s birth. If avoiding pain medication is in your birthing plan, then home birth may be the correct choice for you.
Control: In a home birth, you have complete control over your surroundings, as well as your care. Primarily, you are in the comfort of your own home. You also are able to control who is present. It is typically a much more personal experience than hospital birth.
Lower Cost: On average, home birth is going to be less expensive than hospital birth. In addition to the personability of your duala, you also get to have a large say in what happens.
Hospital Birth
Pain Relief: If the pain of birth worries you, you may be considering medication. That is an option that can only be administered in a hospital.
Interventions: Hospital births put you inside a hospital, which in turn allows you to have access to a multitude of medical professionals. For example, if you or your baby needed to have emergency surgery, you would be in exceptionally close proximity to those services.
NICU: Unfortunately, you will not be able to predict how your birth will go until it is happening. Hospitals have access to a NICU if you and your baby experience complications while at the hospital.
In the end, it is important to choose the location that best fits your needs. If you are interested in home birth, it is best to get in touch with a doula as soon as possible. The sooner you are able to decide on which option is best for you, the more you are able to plan. We wish you and your baby a happy and healthy journey.
