How You Can Become More Flexible

Flexibility is not something that comes easily to some, but not everyone. It is often something that a person has to work on in order to become more flexible. There are many benefits and ways to help improve this skill, which we will talk about here.

What is Flexibility?

Flexibility is someone's ability to move their joints and/or body in a series of motions without feeling restricted. This skill can make it easier to move your body in many different ways without leaving you feeling stuck or like something is out of your range of motion. It can even release tension in your body that may build up when not stretching or working on one's movements/flexibility. 


Improving Flexibility


Improving or maintaining your body's range of motion is more important than you may think. Here are some steps you can take each day to improve your flexibility and help your overall health.


-Warm-Up: Before you stretch, it is always important to warm up ahead of time. If you begin to stretch with cold muscles it can increase your risk of injury. This is because your muscles aren’t as pliable as they are when you’re warm, so try to start out with a cardiovascular warm-up before you begin to stretch.

-Stretching: When stretching, it is important to begin with dynamic before going into static stretches. This is because dynamic is a gradual build-up to increase your range of stretch before going into static stretching, which pushes your muscles to their farthest point. 


-Routine: Create a stretching routine that is balanced with different elements and works both the front and back of your body. Make this routine a habit done frequently to help ensure the improvement and benefits. 


Benefits


You may begin to notice many benefits after starting a flexibility routine. It can improve your range of motion and performance in activities, prevent injuries, increase blood flow, reduce inflammation, improve strength, be a time of relaxation, etc. Even just giving it a try for a few weeks can help you to see the areas of your health you didn’t even know you needed improvement on. 


Flexibility is a great way to improve your body's health. Try and use some of these tips to set up a routine to not only improve your flexibility but also make you feel better! Incorporate things into your day that benefit you!
