Great Snacks for Weight Loss

For many people trying hard to stick to a diet or lifestyle change, one of the hardest parts is eating well when hungry. It’s these moments when we’re hungry, irritated, and vulnerable that most often knock us off our diet.

You’ve probably been through it before. You’re at work, and you ate a healthy lunch a couple of hours ago. But you’ve still got a couple of hours left of your shift and even longer until dinner. And all of the sudden you feel your stomach grumble. Maybe you feel a headache coming on, and you start feeling sluggish and lightheaded.

It’s moments like these when we find ourselves craving a snack to hold us over, to get us through the day, to quiet the stomach grumblings. I know the feeling.

That’s why it’s so important to know what makes for a healthy snack (and what snacks to avoid) and to always have a snack on hand for these very moments. They can honestly be the difference between continuing a successful diet and falling off the wagon and spiraling out of control. I speak from experience.

Without further ado, let’s dig into these healthy snacks!

What makes a snack healthy?

Most of us know what makes a snack unhealthy, right? Unhealthy snacks are usually highly processed with unnatural preservatives, lots of sugar, calories, and unhealthy fats like trans fats. We can look at the food label and pretty quickly check for these bad ingredients.

So, what makes a snack healthy? Healthy snacks will usually have a lower amount of calories. And the calories that make up the snack will be nutritious, by which I mean, high in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and protein.

Alright, so we know what makes for a healthy vs. unhealthy snack. But what are some examples you should look for when you go to the grocery store?

You can’t go wrong when you stick to the produce section of your grocery store. Fruits and veggies are a great source of vitamins and minerals, and they’re usually pretty low in calories. But you probably already know that.

Most people know that fruits and veggies are healthy, but they’re not always convenient, and sometimes they don’t make us feel full after eating them. Don’t worry. I’ve got some other delicious options that will actually hold you over.

Many people crave snacks that remind them of the foods they're actually craving. And it’s pretty rare that we’re really craving an apple or bell pepper. At least for me, that’s true. But I do crave sweet and savory crunchy snacks.

Here are some tasty and crunchy snacks that are healthy and will fill you up. If you’re in the mood for something savory, try these Physicians Weight Loss Centers Pretzel Twists or, if you like sweet and savory, their Sweety and Salty Bars. They’re so good. And the best part is that they’re convenient. Throw it in your bag in the morning or keep a stash at work, and when hunger strikes, give it one quick blow with one of these healthy snacks.

If you’re looking for something sweeter, Physicians Weight Loss Centers has you covered there, too. Their crunchy Party Mix gives you the crunch you crave with 10 grams of protein and only 3 total grams of fat. Or try their Marshmallow Brownie Bar, which also has 10 grams of protein and just 150 calories.

These snacks can help make the difference between blowing your diet and staying on the path to weight loss and success.

Don’t get caught hungry without a healthy snack on hand. Be prepared, and your chances of success will be that much higher.

Here’s to healthy snacking!
